ABOUT
OUR NAME

As a citation convention common across all disciplines, “et al.” unites us as academics seeking to learn from each other and improve the society we live in. As an abbreviation for et alia, literally “and others,” it emphasizes the communal nature of this venture. The space itself is aimed at uniting the faculty and graduate students at York University and will only survive and thrive through the efforts, input, and patronage of this community.

OUR MISSION

The mission of the York University Faculty-Graduate Student Co-operative is to provide food and beverage services to its members, as well as a location for social interaction and intellectual engagement. In offering these services, the Co-operative prioritizes healthy, sustainable, and inclusive food and beverage options and the provision of experiential education opportunities for students.
LOCAL & SUSTAINABLE

Our sustainability committee work with our chef to source out new and innovative locally produced food options for our members. We have a strong commitment to reducing our footprint and building new methods of delivering and creating beautiful food options.
FAIRTRADE

Fairtrade and Organic Certified coffees from around the world. Locally roasted, cooperatively supplied. Our coffee partners are global leaders in sustainability and solidarity trading.
COOPERATIVE

Built by faculty and graduate students, for faculty and graduate students. Everything from our food to our atmosphere is decided democratically by our membership.
YORK U LEARNING

Our pub is located in York University and our facilities are used to promote experiential education. We also participate in a number of events that promote cooperatives, sustainable supply chains and food sovereignty.
